9 WAYS TO MAKE THE HOLIDAY SEASON Memorable

december-banner-2017

December is finally here and we have made it through another busy year. Congratulations on managing to juggle work, studies, family, friends and social commitments. It is time to enjoy a relaxing break. Whether you are going on vacation or enjoying a staycation, here are our top tips for a well-deserved break.

1

A great holiday has nothing to  do with age or cost, but everything to do with where you go and who you go with. Think carefully about who you want to spend time with. Jim Rohn says: “You are the average of the 5 people you spend most of your time with.”Try and ensure you spend time with people who add value to your life.

5

Give a little and receive a lot. Why not consider volunteering during the holidays? Giving up an hour or two to work in a soup kitchen, to visit an orphanage, old age home, or a pet shelter will give you the gift of knowing you have touched someone else’s life in a positive way. It is true; when we give, we receive.

2

Don’t make the holidays a financial nightmare. During the holiday season, South Africans often spend more money on gifts, travel, and entertainment than at any other time of the year. Many people use their credit cards and end up getting into debt, causing financial problems for months or even years to come. Avoid things you can’t afford, no matter how much you want it.

6

Adjust your expectations. Sometimes, we work so hard during the year that we pin all our expectations on our annual holiday and expect those days or weeks to live up to our hopes and dreams. We expect the holiday to be perfect but sadly, ‘perfect’ is unrealistic. Think about what you truly want to achieve in the holidays and whether you can realistically achieve this.

3

Spend time in the great outdoors. We have so many wonderful national parks in South Africa. Did you know there are over 2 000 municipal parks in Johannesburg, from the well-known Zoo Lake to Emmarentia Dam, Delta Park, and the Botanical Gardens. Many of these parks are free and available for you to use and enjoy at any time of the year.

7

Reflect on 2017 and remember your blessings. Spend some time thinking about all you have achieved and gained in 2017 and celebrate your success.

4

Invest time in your relationships. Spend time with those you love, whether that be family or friends and avoid people who drain your energy.

8

If you are travelling, travel safe. There are so many accidents on the road during the festive season. Be careful and courteous on the roads, as it is not a race to get to your destination.

9

Plan for the future. What do you want to achieve in the coming year. Spend time during the holidays planning your successful future. Think about your education and let the Academy of York team help you plan your career and skills improvement.

Academy of York wish all our current and prospective students a very Happy Festive Season and all the very best for a successful and prosperous 2018. Our college will be closed from the 21st of December and re-open on the 3rd of January 2018
