The Academy of York is an accredited Further Education and Training College that was established in 2006 and boasts over 10,000 successful graduates.
The Academy of York is now proud to offer our training methods to Corporate South Africa to reduce skills shortages in companies and at the same time while ensuring that the maximum BEE benefit is derived.
The new proposed BEE codes, effective October 2014, change the elements in the BEE scorecard from seven to five elements. This, however, is not a reduction but rather a rearrangement of the elements. Skills development is now a priority element with a points weighting of 20 points.
In order to gain the 20 skills development points, companies have to provide targeted training and train with the objective of absorbing the learner into the organisation. Training compliance targets are based on the economically active population, but can include the unemployed. Should the skills development threshold of 40% (8 of the available 20 points) not be achieved, the overall score will be discounted, thus penalising the company.
Points can be gained through the offering of bursaries, learnerships, apprenticeships and internships. When such learners are absorbed into the company a further five points can be gained.

CUSTOMISED TRAINING OPTIONS
In using all or some of the following learning solutions, the Academy of York will design a Customised Training Solution perfect for your requirements:
- Distance Learning
- Flipped Learning
- Blended Learning
Distance Learning: We realize that it is not always possible to take employees away from their daily work and we understand the related financial and work stress that this could creates for both the employees and the employer. More people are starting to undertake studies via distance or correspondence learning. Over 1 million people in South Africa are currently studying via this method.
Flipped Learning: The combination of distance learning, where students study a specific module, prior to a contact or classroom session has been proven to be the most effective way for students to absorb the required information. Students have shown far better understanding of material thus leading to far more informative facilitation sessions.
Blended Learning: While distance learning has proved to be a very efficient means of learning, the Academy of York also feel that some contact or classroom learning does add great value to any learning programme. We offer 1 or 2 contact sessions per module, offered in the comfort of the employee’s office, once again ensuring that the employee is not away for too long from his or her duties.
