One of my favourite ways to start my day at work is to google tips of successful people or better yet, bring these gurus into my office through a YouTube video. I mean who does not want to be successful? We all do, right? But do we spend time learning about what successful people do each day? The secret to any success lies in your daily habits. I am quite sure you brushed your teeth this morning without even thinking about it – it is simply a good habit! Brian Tracy puts it best in saying, “Form good habits and make them your masters, rather than allowing bad habits to form”. What are the habits in your life that are good for you – habits that catapult you forward in your career and help you stand out from the crowd?
It is said that Self-Discipline is key to forming positive habits, self-discipline is defined as, “The ability to make yourself do what you should do, when you should do it, whether you feel like it or not”. Brian Tracy points out that we all have ability to do things, but do we do things consistently whether we feel like it or not?
Successful people focus on minutes not hours and they understand that there is nothing more valuable than time. When thinking about what they need to do each day, they focus on completing their most important task fully before moving onto the next activity.
According to Kevin Kruse who points out that billionaire Warren Buffet once said, “The difference between successful people and very successful people is that very successful people say ‘no’ to almost everything.” In understanding that their time is important they don’t give it away easily!
So if you want to be successful become aware of the habits that make you the person you are, think about your work habits, your health, exercise habits and lifestyle habits. Whatever it is start small, the snowball effect is a sure fire way to improve yourself, as each time you make a small change – that small change will inspire you to make the next change, and slowly but surely your life will change for the better
